Real Estate Construction and Renovation

This section of Source1LasVegas.com is all about letting you know of various on-going and future real estate construction and renovation projects taking place in Las Vegas. Some of these may affect your plans but most will fall under the "you may be interested to know" category.

Las Vegas Strip

Echelon Place

Stardust Farewell Sign These are probably some of the last pictures taken of the legendary Stardust (1958-2006) before it was imploded in the early morning hours of March 13, 2007 to make way for  Echelon Place.  StardustHotelFinalDays

One of the largest projects to date on the Las Vegas Strip, the $4.4 billion Echelon Place will consist of four hotels (Echelon Resort, Shangri-La, Delano and Mondrian for a total of 5300 rooms), shopping, theaters, a huge convention center and 140,000 square feet of casino space.  Completion of this megaresort is scheduled for 2010.

Project CityCenter

City Center Street PhotoIf you happen to pass by the area between the Monte Carlo and Bellagio you will see a huge construction project underway. When completed in November 2009, this 76-acre site will be the home of MGM Mirage's Project CityCenter. At a cost of approximately $7 billion, this "city within a city" will include a 60-story, 4,000 room hotel-casino, multiple boutique hotels, luxury condos, restaurants, shopping and entertainment. The complex will house the City Center Photo From Atop RioVdara Condo Hotel, The Residences of Mandarin Oriental and The Harmon Hotel and Residences. Also part of the complex will be the Veer Towers. These unique twin 37 story glass towers will lean in opposite directions - five degrees from center. The picture above is a street level view and the one to your right was taken from the VooDoo Lounge atop the Rio in late Aug. 2007.

Aladdin/Planet Hollywood

Planet Hollywood ResortWork is about complete on the transformation of the Aladdin to Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino. No small feat since the "old" Aladdin had an Arabian Nights theme. This was actually the second one (built in 2000) to have the name Aladdin and occupy this location (the first being famous as the site of the 1967 wedding of Elvis Presley and Priscilla Beaulieu). The old Aladdin's popular Desert Passage shopping area has been renamed to Miracle Mile Shops and boasts 170 stores and 15 restaurants.

Fremont East District (Downtown Las Vegas)

Adjacent to the Fremont Street Experience is the Fremont East Districtnew Fremont East. Dedicated on August 24, 2007, this $5.5 million "streetscaping" project is another example of local downtown businesses and the City of Las Vegas taking action to revitalize the downtown area. Seven months in the making, the project installed lighted gateways and 40-foot tall neon signs. Visitors interested in seeing some new downtown sites will find nightclubs, cocktail lounges and other night time entertainment.
